Traffic jams occurred in Mosul as heavy overnight rainfall tore through parts of the area’s already dilapidated infrastructure.
Videos and pictures went viral showing many roads were put out of service, while some bridges submerged with water. One bridge partially collapsed, only a few days after it was inaugurated.
The Nineveh Provincial Council declared Sunday an official public holiday, while the municipal offices and health, water, sewage, civil defense, and disaster prevention service departments were on duty to repair damages caused by the rain.
Several areas in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region saw torrential rains over the weekend.
