An Iraqi court has decreed executing two people over participating in the assassination of a police chief in the Salahuddin province, along with his aide.

In a statement, the Supreme Judicial Council said Salahuddin Criminal Court sentenced the two suspects to death by hanging as per provisions of the article no. 4 of the Iraqi Anti-Terrorism Act.

No further details were given about the number or fate of the other defendants, involved in the case.

In 2013, Brigadier General Ahmad al-Batawi and his assistant, Hamada al-Dukhi, were killed as an IED went off on their convoy in Shirqat town, north of Tikrit.

A number of suspects were then arrested, however, the judiciary said the two suspects admitted to being involved in the assassination of Batawi and Dukhi along with other defendants.
