The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Friday canceling Newroz celebration in solidarity with the victims of the sunken ferry in the Tigris.

A ferry with a 'technical problem' capsized in the Tigris River near the northern city of Mosul on Thursday, killing at least 95 people.

The ferry capsized with scores of people on board, including dozens of families with children.

Iraqi residents of the northern city of Mosul, angry over the sinking of the ferry, blocked a road where Iraq's presidential convoy was passing on Friday, chanting "no to corruption" and pelting the provincial governor's car with stones in protest.

The incident occurred in the Tigris River in Mosul at around 4 p.m. local time near an amusement park during Newroz celebrations.
