SULAIMANI, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,—The Change (Gorran) Movement has selected Mustafa Sayid Qadir as its pick for Iraqi Kurdistan region vice president.

An informed source who spoke on condition of anonymity told NRT TV on Tuesday that General Coordinator of the Change Movement Omar Said Ali has tapped Sayid Qadir as the party’s only candidate for the position.

Muhammad Rahim Tofiq, who recently resigned from the membership of the executive body, also sent his application to Gorran for consideration for the position, but was not chosen.

Both sons of late party general coordinator Nawshirwan Mustafa have reportedly expressed support for the pick.

Sayid Qadir previously served as Peshmerga Affairs Minister.

Under the agreement forming the government, Gorran was allocated four ministerial positions, one of two vice presidencies, and deputy prime minister.

The party holds twelve seats in the Parliament and is the third largest party.

On June 10, 2019 Nechirvan Barzani was sworn in as Iraqi Kurdistan’s second president. On May 28, 2019, 68 lawmakers in Kurdistan parliament from the 111-seat legislature voted in favor of Nechirvan Barzani as the new regional president.
