Finland has reopened its embassy in Baghdad and announced

boosting trade between the two countries after a suspension of nearly 30 years.

This comes while Iraq is witnessing violent protests

that claimed the lives of more than 300 people and injured 6,000 others.

The new Finnish ambassador to Baghdad Vesa Häkkinen

said his country had suspended diplomatic relations with Iraq with the outbreak

of the Gulf War in early 1991.

He said that the Finnish embassy will begin its work

with the assistance of a diplomatic staff of four members initially, adding that

the embassy headquarters will be in the same building of the Swedish embassy in

Baghdad.
