ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani met with a delegation of British Court of Appeal judges in Erbil on Thursday where they discussed the state of the justice system and ways to strengthen courts in KRG and Iraq.

 

A statement from the office of the prime minister said that Barzani met with Lord Justice Gross, Lady Justice Anne Rafferty and Lord Justice Andrew Hutton.

 

The delegation was headed by Justice Gross who was named Lead Judge for International Relations last year.

 

The British judges and the Kurdish prime minister talked about strengthening the courts of the Kurdistan Region and the rule of law, according to the statement.

 

“Including training judges at home and abroad,” read the statement.

 

A better management of terror cases and the independence of Kurdish and Iraqi courts were among the main topics.

 

The judges sought further cooperation with the KRG Justice Council as they have established similar collaboration with their Iraqi counterpart.

 

Prime Minister Barzani said he would welcome strong cooperation between KRG and British courts for the betterment of the justice system and the rule of law in the Kurdistan Region.
