Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi said Saturday that Iraq hopes for carrying out projects in various fields with Egypt, especially housing, education, cultural, and transport ones.

In a joint press conference with Egypt's President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi amid the premier’s first visit to Egypt, Abd al-Mahdi said that his trip to Cairo attaches the importance of Egypt to the Iraqi administration and people alike, Egyptian state's Middle East News Agency reported.

The Iraqi prime minister hailed the cordial reception he received upon his arrival to Egypt, and voiced his pleasure for the mutual interest between the two countries in reinforcing the established bilateral ties.

Our talks tackled expanding the cooperation between Baghdad and Cairo, Abd al-Mahdi said, adding that Iraq has long seen Egypt as an elder sister.

Iraq now is a friend country for both neighboring and world states alike and never want repeating previous conflicts and tensions, the premier said.

Abd al-Mahdi pointed out to the hard times Iraq witnessed until defeating terrorism and achieving stability, saying time had come to build ties with other countries to give our nations optimism for a better future.

He stressed his country’s desire for having strong ties with other Arab and regional states, topped by Egypt, citing that he was looking forward to the tripartite summit that between Baghdad, Cairo and Amman, planned to be held here on Sunday.

The prime minister stressed that Iraq no longer has enemies nowadays but terrorism, poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment.
