Overview
So far in 2019, a total of 5,241 refugees and migrants arrived in Greece by sea. The majority are from Afghanistan (47%), Iraq (14%) and Syria (12%). More than half of the population are women (23%) and children (40%), while 38% are men.
Arrivals in March 2019, at 1,904 increased in comparison to February, when 1,486 people had arrived on the islands. Arrivals during 2019 are 2% lower than those in 2018.
Lesvos received the majority (45%) of all new arrivals, during the first two months of 2019, followed by Samos (28%), the Dodecanese islands (17%) and Chios (11%).
