SULAIMANI, Iraq’s Kurdistan region,— Leader of the New Generation Movement (Newey Nwê) Shaswar Abdulwahid said on Thursday that someday Iraqi Kurdistan Region’s armed forces, Peshmerga, will revolt against the ruling authority and destroy it.

Abdulwahid made the comment in reply to comments by members of the public on Facebook.

The New Generation leader said one day that the Kurdistan’s people would take up arms and the Peshmerga and armed forces would be called on to overthrow the ruling parties.

“No dictator has thought that they would be unseated, until the people came to his house and kicked him out and shot him [to death] in front of his house or jailed him,” he wrote.

“People have been lied to so much. Those who were their leaders and presidents have died or surrendered or been silent for money and positions.”

“If the people know that there is a courageous force, they will go forward and be with it. Be patient, you will see what the people will do in the future. The Egyptian people were silent before the Egyptian revolution. But, when the nation revolted, no force was able to bear it,” he said in a reply to a comment on his official Facebook page.

The initial comments by members the public were in reply to a video that Abdulwahid published on his official Facebook page that showed protesters being killed by the security forces in different parts of Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

The New Generation Movement said on Thursday that the situation in Iraqi Kurdistan Region, which has been governed by a ruling duopoly for the last 28 years, has reached a point where people take will begin taking to the streets like in Sudan and Algeria.

The Movement released a statement about the momentous developments in Sudan by saying that the Sudanese army’s decision to remove Omar al-Bashir from power came after several months of demonstrations by the country’s people against the regime, which had been in power for 30 years.

The Kurdish armed forces so-called Peshmerga in Iraqi Kurdistan are not unified forces, and considered as militias loyal and taking orders directly from the ruling parties of KDP which is led by Massoud Barzani and PUK, led by Talabani family.

Iraqi Kurdistan is not unified region, it is divided politically and geographically between the rival KDP and the PUK.
