The Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has announced the increase in the numbers of the affected families due to the torrents that swept a number of south and middle governorates.

The IRCS has reported in a statement that the recent floods that hit many areas and villages of (Salahuddin, Diyala, Wasit, Maysan, Theqar and Basrah governorates have created a critical humanitarian situation and the collapse of tens of houses and more than 4713 families have been damaged, also a vast spaces of agriculture lands have been sunk.

The IRCS`s teams have taken urgent measurements to contain the crises and fixing the damages through mobilizing all thier material and humanitarian resources, also preparing an additional emergency centers in order to facilitate the immediate intervention mission to provide the support, relief and food assistance for the affected families, adding to reinforce the logistic side for the affected governorates from floods with additional cars and increasing its storage from food, first aid and relief items to be the numbers of families that the IRCS has assisted more than 3600 displaced and affected families, also most of the families have been transported to the camps being installed in safe areas.

The IRCSs teams have also distributed since the beginning of floods crises in the first of April 2019 till now more than 5400 relief items and food parcels to the affected families in the areas that damaged by floods and torrents, adding to install more than 500 tents in order to shelter the displaced families after the sinking of their houses, where the IRCSs health teams have distributed 1851 health set which included( cleaning detergent, towels, child pampers, and antiseptics), adding to provide first aid, medical and psychosocial support services.
