From April 17 to 18, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Iraq Hrachya Poladyan visited Basra where he had a meeting with Governor Asaad Al-Edani.

During their conversation, Ambassador Poladyan and Governor Al-Edani emphasized the need for enhancement of the historically established relations between the Iraqi and Armenian peoples.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the steps promoting the enhancement of trade and economic relations and pinpointed the paths for cooperation in agriculture, science, education and healthcare.

Ambassador Poladyan also met with Chairman of the Basra Provincial Council Sabah al-Bazouni. During the meeting, the parties discussed the opportunities for cooperation between the parliamentarians of Armenia and Basra and emphasized that Basra is the only province in Iraq where the Armenian community has its deputy.

Ambassador Poladyan also visited the St. Mary’s Armenian Church in Basra, met with members of the local Armenian community and answered their questions of concern.
