Baghdad's inter-parliamentary conference benefits region: MP
The convening of an inter-parliamentary
conference in Baghdad on Saturday is a positive step for the whole
region and for Iraq in particular, MP Adil al-Mahallawi said.
"This step contributes to enhancing
security and stability, providing opportunities for development and prosperity
for the participating countries, and is an opportunity for dialogue and for finding
effective solutions to the problems and crises experienced by neighboring
countries, he said in a statement.
A source in the
Parliament’s foreign affairs committee said earlier that speakers of parliaments
of seven countries will attend an inter-parliamentary
conference in Iraq.
Invitations to the
seven parliament speakers will be sent starting next week, the source said,
adding that at least 25 figures will attend the conference, as part of the
parliamentary delegation of each of the seven countries.
The delegations
will reach starting on Friday, the source said.
An Iraqi source
said that an Iranian delegation headed by Iranian parliament speaker Ali
Larijani will be invited to attend the conference, IRNA reported.
