Iraq's

President Barham Salih on Tuesday affirmed his full support for the efforts to

include the antiquities of Babylon within the World Heritage List, calling for

paying the province the required attention.

This

came as the president received at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad Babylon Governor Karar

Sabah al-Abadi and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement by

Salih's office.

The

president, during the meeting, stressed the need to intensify efforts to fight

corruption, and enhance tolerance among all Iraqi components.

Meanwhile, Abadi gave a detailed explanation about his province's general situation and expressed gratitude for Salih's support for Babylon's re-inclusion on the World Heritage List, Xinhua reported.

Located some 100 km south of Baghdad, the ancient site of Babylon is considered one of the most prominent archaeological sites in the world.

Because of the damaging maintenance by the former regime, the ancient site was removed from the World Heritage List of the UNESCO.

During the past years, the provincial government of Babylon launched a campaign under the slogan "Babylon is a Human and an International Heritage," in order to facilitate the return of the ancient site on the World Heritage List.
