Babylon’s ancient ruins are the iconic remains of an ancient Mesopotamian civilization dating back 4,000 years.

Here visitors can explore the brick foundations of a once flourishing empire ruled by Hammurabi and Nebuchadnezzar.

A replica of the Ishtar Gate, constructed around 575 BC by Nebuchadnezzar II in dedication to the goddess Ishtar, offers a picture of the architectural achievements of one of the world’s first great civilizations.

A reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate, tiled in deep blue and decorated with golden bulls and dragons, was built at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Germany out of material excavated by archaeologist at the site in the 19th and early 20th century.
