A Turkish court on Thursday handed down a 42-year prison sentence to Selahattin Demirtas, a former leader of the pro-Kurdish HDP party, for his alleged involvement in the deadly 2014 protests that occurred during the Islamic State group’s takeover of the Syrian town of Kobane.
