Q&A: Marfaa Kadhim al-Assadi, deputy director of Basra Gas Company
BASRA - Iraq's most pressing energy sector priority is arguably to stop wasting natural gas by flaring it and put it to use for electricity generation and other industrial needs.
The Basra Gas Company (BGC), a joint venture between Shell, Mitsubishi, and the state-run South Gas Company (SGC), is the flagship enterprise working on this problem. At three of the largest fields in Basra, the consortium is contracted to process associated gas, which is generated as a byproduct of crude production.
