Iraqi security forces kill 6 IS militants S. Kirkuk
(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) IRBIL, April 25 (KUNA) -- At least six militants of the so-called Islamic State (IS) have been killed by the Iraqi security forces in southern Kirkuk, north of Iraq, Iraq's security media cell said on Thursday.
It added in a statement some personnel of the anti-terror apparatus, supported by the army aircraft, continue to cleanse Wadi al-Shai area, southern Kirkuk. The forces also demolished some hotbeds and tunnels of the extremist group, it noted.
The Iraqi warplanes, backed by the US-led coalition forces, have been carrying out air strikes on the area for three days, targeting the militants' hideouts.
In December, 2017, Iraq announced the victory over the IS militants, after recapturing several areas.
However, the group is still launching attacks on military personnel and civilians in different areas in the country. (end) msb.mmj.hm
