Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi has called on Washington to protect Nineveh Plains, north of Iraq, against the possible occurrence of ISIS, press outlets reported.
The requests were made during Abdul-Mahdi’s meeting with the US acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan in Baghdad on Tuesday.
The Iraqi intelligence service, according to sources, obtained information from the arrested ISIS leaders that the extremist group plans for a comeback in northern Iraq, especially in the areas around Mosul.
Shanahan made a surprise visit to Iraq to discuss the US withdrawal from Syria and the issue of US military presence in Iraq.
