A Kurdish Peshmerga commander has warned of insurgency activities carried out by ISIS, saying that the group has only been eliminated from populated areas while it is still active in remote areas.

In remarks on Wednesday, Jafaar Sheikh Mustafa, a commander of the Peshmerga forces, said ISIS is still not defeated yet, adding that some insurgents are still active in remote areas across Iraq.

He went on saying that ISIS also target the Peshmerga forces, however, their attacks are strongly defeated.

In late 2017, Iraq declared victory over ISIS, however, sporadic attacks are still carried out by the dormant cells of the extremist group. Last week, the last pocket held by ISIS in Syria was liberated after months of fierce clashes in the region.
