More than 60 Kurdish politicians, including candidates for the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP), were arrested in Turkey for unclear reasons, only hours before the elections kicked off on Saturday, a statement by the party said.

The Turkish police carried out an operation in Istanbul, raiding 127 houses and arresting 53 politicians. 11 others were taken into custody from Sanliurfa, HDP said.

Meanwhile, over 30 HDP members in Adana, Van, and Igdir cities were reprimanded to jail on "terrorism-related" charges, the report added.

Previously, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu indicated that they would target the HDP.
