Kurdish prisoner Mahsum Pamay commits suicide in Turkey over Ocalan’s prison conditions
DIYARBAKIR-AMED, Turkey Kurdistan,— More Kurdish prisoners in Turkey are ending their life to protest the isolation imposed on jailed Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, Firat news agency reported.
Political prisoner Mahsum Pamay jailed in Elaz?? T Type Prison, has carried out an action of self-sacrifice and ended his life to protest against the isolation imposed on Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan.
The prison administration has called the Pamay family and informed them about the death of their son.
The 22 years old prisoner, who was born in Cizre district of ??rnak in Turkish Kurdistan (Bakur), told his family during a phone conversation last Monday that pressures against the prisoners had increased.
Since the launch of hunger strike actions demanding the end of isolation against Abdullah Ocalan, eight people, seven of them being political prisoners in Turkey, have ended their lives to protest the isolation.
Bodies of the martyred prisoners were all withheld by the Turkish regime and buried in silence without the participation of relatives and people, while only a few family members were allowed attendance.

U?ur ?akar, who had set himself on fire in Krefeld, Germany on February 20 to protest the isolation, lost his life on March 22 in the hospital he was being treated in.
Ayten Beçet jailed in Gebze Women’s Closed Prison, carried out a sacrifice action in protest at the isolation and lost her life on March 23.
Zehra Sa?lam jailed in Oltu T Type Closed Prison in Erzurum province, ended her life to protest the isolation of Ocalan on March 24.
Medya Ç?nar jailed in Mardin E Type Closed Prison carried out an action of self-sacrifice and claimed her life on March 25.
Yonca Akici in ?akran Women’s Closed Prison attempted to end her life to protest isolation against Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan on March 29. She had been on hunger strike since 1 March and eventually lost her life at hospital on April 1.
Siraç Yüksek jailed in Osmaniye Prison carried out an action of self-sacrifice and ended his life to protest against the isolation of Ocalan on April 2.
Ocalan was captured in 1999 and is serving a life sentence on Imrali island, close to Istanbul.
A large Kurdish community in Turkey and worldwide openly sympathise with PKK rebels and Abdullah Ocalan, who founded the PKK group in 1974 and currently serving a life sentence in Turkey. Ocalan has a high symbolic value for most Kurds in Turkey and worldwide according to observers.
Kurds see Ocalan, as a living symbol of the Kurdish cause in Turkey.
The PKK took up arms in 1984 against the Turkish state, which still denies the constitutional existence of Kurds, to push for greater autonomy in Turkish Kurdistan for the Kurdish minority who make up around 22.5 million of the country’s 79-million population. More than 40,000 Turkish soldiers and Kurdish rebels, have been killed in the conflict.
Ocalan has not had access to his lawyers since 2011. Dozens went on hunger strike calling for access for Ocalan’s lawyers and family members.
