Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in a statement on Tuesday called on all political parties to support national endeavors aiming to protect Kurdistan's constitutional rights and status in the country.

The Kurdish leader made these remarks while extending his warm wishes to the leadership and members of the Change Movement (Gorran) as the party commemorates the 14th anniversary of its founding.

"On the occasion of the 14th anniversary of the establishment of the Change Movement, I congratulate all members and fans of the party. I wish you success in advocating for national causes and the constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan," said the prime minister.

I hope that the Change Movement and all other political parties in Kurdistan would cooperate, coordinate, and be unanimous in defending the fair rights of the Kurdistani nation as well as in protecting and developing Kurdistan Region's constitutional status."

The Change Movement was founded in 2009 by deceased prominent Kurdish politician Nawshirwan Mustafa, who split from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in a political rivalry over running the party.

Gorran won 25 seats in its first participation in Kurdistan Region's parliamentary elections. The party's popularity waned significantly after founder Nawshirwan Mustafa passed away in 2017.

Nonetheless, the party is a major partner in this coalition cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), occupying several key cabinet positions including the post of minister of finance and economy.
