The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is closely collaborating with the private sector to expand and diversify its tourism sector as part of government efforts to advance this critical aspect of the economy, a source told BasNews.

"In light of Kurdistan Region's convenient climate and environment, we have specified at least 15 types of tourism, and have already taken steps to materialize all of them to ensure tourists have a variety of tourism spots where they can relax and enjoy their time," Ibrahim Abdulmajid, the spokesperson for Kurdistan Region's Tourism Board, told BasNews today.

These 15 tourism kinds are designed in a way to draw tourists to the Kurdistan Region during all four seasons, including during the winter. We have also taken steps to turn into tourist settings places of heritage and historic importance, archeology, agricultural settings, national monuments, and natural settings."

The current KRG cabinet aims to leverage Kurdistan's natural beauty and places of historic importance to boost tourism, and diversify revenue streams, and consequently strengthening the Region's overall economic infrastructure.

The government is seeking to integrate historic sites, museums, and memorials into the tourism industry to promote Kurdistan's history and heritage. The Region's reputation for hospitality and stability also contributes significantly to attracting more foreign tourists.
