Iraq Without Winter: A Major National Campaign to Save the Environment and Increase Green Spaces
The Sustainable Development and Education Organization "Masar" has launched a major national campaign with innovative ideas and activities to preserve the environment and increase green spaces.
Mohammed Amer Al-Akaishi, the head of the organization, stated, "In parallel with the national afforestation campaign, our organization has launched a national campaign featuring several unique activities and new ideas to highlight the importance of preserving the environment and expanding green spaces, raising awareness across all segments of society."
He added, "The campaign included a mobile art exhibition, where buses toured the main streets of Najaf and Kufa from morning until evening, adorned with artistic paintings by young artists, reflecting their vision and aspirations for a sustainable green environment."
Al-Akaishi continued, "The campaign also featured a public dialogue session, during which Dr. Haider Faleh Al-Hadrawi, Head of the Climate Change Department in Najaf’s Environment Division, gave a detailed explanation on the importance of environmental preservation and the planting of perennial trees. He warned that if desertification continues in Iraq, the country could face a future without winter within a decade."
The head of "Masar" further mentioned that the campaign also included the distribution of paper envelopes containing seeds of evergreen trees to the public, along with an art exhibition featuring live painting by artist Riam Fadel Abbas and a photography exhibition focused on the environment. A media campaign was also launched among youth to spread awareness about the campaign's goals.
