UN envoy expected to attend parliament session on reform plan
The UN Special Representative to Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, is expected to attend a parliament session on Wednesday to discuss reforms, amid ongoing nationwide protests that have been staged since October, news reports said.
The session will also tackle multiple proposed bills as part of the attempts to introduce reforms in the government, in hopes of meeting the protesters’ demands. Ongoing violence and increasing casualties among Iraqi protesters is also on the agenda.
On Monday, Hennis-Plasschaert reportedly met with Iraq's top religious authority Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani on Monday and proposed a reform plan that demands an immediate end to the violence that has killed more than 300 people since the start of October,
