Toothless Dalkurd fall to 2-0 loss in Swedish football league
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdish football club Dalkurd FF’s poor form continued after they lost 2-0 to undefeated side Varbergs Bois in Sweden’s second-tier Superettan league on Saturday.
The Kurdish club was the busier of the two sides going forward in the first half but failed to register a single shot.
Varbergs, however, was more efficient and opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Astrit Seljmani found the net to give his team a 1-0 half-time lead.
It was more of the same in the second half as Dalkurd’s shot count remained at zero before Varbergs doubled their lead through Daniel Krezic at the 62-minute mark.
The loss means the Kurdish club drop into the relegation spots in 14th place.
Dalkurd’s (2-1-4) next league match is at home to IK Brage (3-1-2) on May 16 at 8 p.m. Erbil time.

Based in the Swedish city of Borlänge, Dalkurd was founded on Sept. 26, 2004, by nine Kurdish immigrants as a social project. The club has since built academies in both Sweden and the Kurdistan Region.
The team’s colors are symbolic of Kurdistan, with the Kurdish flag included in the crest on their shirts.
Dalkurd had bull-dozed its way up the ranks of Swedish football since its 2005 introduction in Tier Seven, winning five promotions in its first five seasons.
However, after a string of poor results in Sweden’s top division, Dalkurd were relegated on the last day of the 2018 season, finishing in 15th place with 24 points (6-6-18).
