The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on Tuesday called on all political parties to take "loyal and responsible steps" to ensure that the Region's overdue parliamentary elections can be held without further delay.

"We hope that all political parties take faithful and responsible steps to hold the elections, resolve problems, and further strengthen the principles of coordination in order to build a better and worthy future for our nation," the KDP politburo said today.

The KDP made these remarks in a statement where the party congratulated the leadership and members of the Change Movement (Gorran) on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of its founding.

"On this occasion, we highly value the role played by your Movement in the Region's political process. We also reiterate the importance of our alliance, as well as our coordination with you and all other political parties in Kurdistan to protect and defend our achievements and to accomplish all our rights," the KDP detailed.

Founded in 2009 by the late prominent Kurdish politician Nawshirwan Mustafa, the Change Movement emerged in the Region's political landscape after a political dispute with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on party leadership.

During its initial participation in the Kurdistan Region's parliamentary elections, Gorran achieved a noteworthy feat by securing 25 seats. However, following the passing of its founder Nawshirwan Mustafa in 2017, the party experienced a significant decline in popularity.

Despite this setback, Gorran remains a crucial partner in the coalition cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). It holds various key positions within the cabinet, including the role of minister of finance and economy. The party is not represented at the federal parliament in Baghdad though due to its recent election loss.
