Shafaq News/The Gorran (Change) Movement announced its decision to withdraw from theKurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and local administrations in thegovernorates of Al-Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, and the Garmian and Raparinadministrations.

The movefollowed a directive from the movement's leadership, instructing its ministersand officials to submit their resignations.

Several high-rankingGorran officials confirmed their resignations in official statements,including:

- MustafaSaid Qadir, Deputy President of the Kurdistan Region.

- KwestanMohammed, Minister of Social Affairs in the KRG.

- AwatSheikh Janab, Minister of Finance and Economy in the KRG.

- JalwanAdel Shakur, Director General of Social Inspection in Garmiyan.

- SirwanMohammed, Director General of Health in Garmian.

- ShadiaHussein, Director General of Agriculture in Garmian.

- KarwanRaouf, Director of Grain Silos in Garmian.

- Halo SalahShawshin, Director General of the Investment Authority.

- Hawta AzizZangana, Director of Shorsh Subdistrict.

- MohsenAdeeb, Director General of Culture in Al-Sulaymaniyah.

- TihaMohammed Qadir, Director of Sarkala Subdistrict in Kifri.

- DiyariWista Aziz, Director General of Libraries in the Kurdistan Region.

- AzadHassan Ahmed, Head of the Garmian branch of the Kurdistan Teachers Union.

Governor ofAl-Sulaimaniyah Steps Down

Al-SulaimaniyahGovernor Haval Abubakir announced on Friday that he is stepping down from hisposition and distancing himself from the political infighting within the Gorran(Change) Movement.

In astatement, Abubakir revealed that he had formally submitted his resignation inSeptember 2021, but it was not accepted. He resubmitted the request in February2022, but no final decision has been made to date.

The outgoinggovernor noted that his resignation has received broad support from variouspolitical forces and government bodies, including the Ministry of Interior andthe Prime Minister's Office of the Kurdistan Region.

Abubakirtook office in January 2017, following instructions from the late Gorranfounder, Nawshirwan Mustafa, with a mandate to provide professional servicesfree of partisanship.

Amid thedeep internal divisions currently plaguing the Gorran Movement and intensifyingconflicts between its factions, Governor Abubakir emphasized his intention toremain neutral. He pledged to continue performing his duties as an independenttechnocrat until his resignation is accepted or legal measures are taken totransfer the post.

The GorranMovement is one of the major political movements in the Kurdistan Region ofIraq. Founded in 2009 as a reformist faction that split from the Patriotic Unionof Kurdistan (PUK), Gorran aims to combat political corruption and enhancedemocracy and transparency within the institutions of the Kurdistan RegionalGovernment (KRG).

In recentyears, Gorran has faced internal leadership challenges, particularly followingthe death of its founder and leader, Nawshirwan Mustafa, in 2017. Thesechallenges have led to internal divisions over how the movement should bemanaged and its future political direction.
